The courts are lost because Democrats let them go
Friends,
Today’s Supreme Court rulings are the direct result of Democrats refusing to confront the right-wing takeover of this country.
They narrowed nationwide judicial injunctions, making it harder for courts to block Trump’s executive orders across the country.
That means his attempt to end birthright citizenship could now go into effect in some states, even if it’s blocked in others.
We’re looking at a future where your citizenship depends on your zip code.
The Court also ruled that parents can opt their kids out of LGBTQ-inclusive lessons—and called it “religious liberty.”
But what it really does is invite censorship in public classrooms and give cover to discrimination. It’s not liberty when your beliefs erase someone else’s existence.
How did we get here?
Because Democrats made the Supreme Court untouchable and let the far right stack it.
They refused to expand the Court, even after Mitch McConnell stole a seat.
They preserved the filibuster, even when it blocked civil rights legislation and judicial reform.
They confirmed some of Trump’s lower court nominees with bipartisan votes, laying the foundation for the rulings we saw today.
And they kept Dianne Feinstein on the Judiciary Committee long after she was capable of holding the line—slowing confirmations under Biden while the damage from Trump’s appointments hardened.
That’s just a start…
When they had the House, Senate, and White House, they didn’t codify Roe. They didn’t end the Hyde Amendment. They didn’t protect LGBTQ kids from being erased out of public education.
They legitimized the right’s framing treating citizenship, immigration, and LGBTQ+ rights as political liabilities instead of human rights.
Now they are locked out of federal political power while ICE detention is at record highs and Marines are patrolling Los Angeles.
And Chuck Schumer’s response to the arrest of a sitting Democratic senator was a politely worded letter, sent two weeks late.
This is what failed opposition looks like.
California has the power to lead a different way.
Butch Ware is running to use that power. To block fascism at the state level. To protect working people. To say what Democrats won’t.
Solidarity,
