Judicial orders mean nothing now. California has to lead the way.

Now Trump is calling for Judge Boasberg's impeachment, labeling him a "Radical Left Lunatic" for daring to enforce the law.

National security attorney Mark Zaid has called this the "start of a true constitutional crisis." Even Chief Justice Roberts — who is no progressive hero — has stepped in to defend judicial independence.

No doubt this is a major turning point. But this constitutional crisis began LONG ago.

Never forget that Democrats paved the way for the current reality when they bragged about their support for a draconian border security bill last year. And remember that only with the help of Democrats in the House and Senate were Republicans able to pass the even more barbaric immigration bill signed into law this year. 

While national Republicans and Democrats race to the right, demonizing immigrants and defending the fascist ICE cops tearing our communities apart, we’re building a working class, multiracial movement here in the nation’s strongest state to fight back.

Butch Ware is running for governor of California to defend working people – including our immigrant neighbors – from runaway federal agencies.

Governors have enormous power to block federal abuse of power, and the governor of the 5th largest economy in the world has more power than most.

As governor of California, Butch Ware will enforce state sanctuary laws and restrict cooperation with ICE from state and local agencies – especially where they unleash mass raids with NO warrant.

He will use the governor’s powers for pardons and clemency to block deportations of people with minor infractions – a major tactic of the current administration.

Democratic governors including Gavin Newsom could do all of this and more right now. Instead they’re cowering before Trump and surrendering the most vulnerable people in our country – all in some deluded attempt to look “strong” on immigration.

California can and must lead the way in the fight against Trump and corporate fascism. When Butch Ware is governor, we will.
