Israel's increased violence signals their defeat

Friends,

It's hard not to feel the weight of despair watching the genocide in Gaza continue day after day.

The normalization of this violence is heartbreaking, and I know you feel the same heaviness — and even hopelessness.

But I want to share something important with you today.

In the Qur'an, messages are often framed as warnings paired with glad tidings, a warning of what's happening but also reasons for hope. This wisdom feels especially relevant right now.

The warning is clear: Israel has succeeded in normalizing genocide, sending messages that they’ll take out those who challenge them.

They martyred Al Jazeera and Drop Site News journalist Hossam Shabat on March 24th, deliberately targeting his car.

They disappeared and tortured Palestinian filmmaker Hamdan Ballal, who stood on the Oscar stage just three weeks ago, winning for his documentary film "No Other Land."

Ballal has only just now been returned to his family, saying to reporters, "All my body is in pain."

The crackdown on speech here in America, with students and academics being silenced for speaking truth to power, shows how desperate they are to control the narrative.

But here's the glad tiding: they're cracking down precisely because they know they've already lost.

We're witnessing what psychologists call an "extinction burst" — the most aggressive behavior happens right before the behavior ends.

The Israeli economy is collapsing, with thousands of businesses closing and billions in investments being withdrawn. Boycott campaigns are isolating Israeli universities and sports teams from the global community.

Internationally, the South African case at the International Court of Justice isn't going away; it's getting stronger, with Ireland joining just this week.

The ICJ has declared Israel to be an illegal occupying state. Israeli soldiers now face war crimes charges when they travel abroad.

Even within Israel, the cracks are showing.

Netanyahu clings to power while fighting corruption charges, and a former Israeli Supreme Court chief recently warned the country is on the brink of a civil war.

I don't want to minimize the violence and suffering. But I want you to understand that the brutal actions in Gaza, the West Bank, and the repression here in the U.S. are direct responses to our growing movement.

They want us to feel useless and apathetic. They want us to give up. That's why we need to push harder.

As Governor of California, I will fully divest our state from genocide. I will ensure that not one dollar of California's money funds the oppression of Palestinians. But I need your support to get there.

NEITHER party in the duopoly is willing to do that. So let’s send a message.

FREE PALESTINE.
