ICE took a father and left his kids in the car

Friends,

This month, ICE agents swept into a quiet farmworker neighborhood in Oxnard, California—arrested a father, and left his children abandoned on the side of the road.

Video filmed by one of his children in the back seat shows agents swinging a pickaxe at the driver’s side window to smash it and drag him out of the vehicle.

Earlier this year, Border Patrol launched a mass sweep through Southern California farm towns—pulling people over based on appearance alone.

Civil rights groups correctly called it racial profiling. A federal judge agreed, issuing an injunction in April and reminding the country that, “You can’t just walk up to people with brown skin and say, ‘Give me your papers.’”

That’s how brazen this has become.

The same political class that funds this racialized state terror—Democrats and Republicans alike—is also gutting public schools, handing billions to war contractors, and locking up protesters demanding peace and dignity.

We will not normalize this. And we will not let another election go by without offering people a real alternative to the parties of war, wealth, and white supremacy.

These ICE raids are just one part of the larger system we’re fighting: a system that criminalizes migration while subsidizing the corporate and military forces that displace people in the first place.

From Gaza to Bakersfield, from the Sahel to Stockton, state violence is global.

But so is solidarity. And solidarity means action.

Under California law, local police are prohibited from assisting ICE. But we know it’s happening anyway.

That makes it the governor’s responsibility—not just to speak out, but to enforce California law and challenge federal injustice at every level of government.

We know we won’t get that from our current governor. He’s too busy turning the waning years of his governorship into a milquetoast presidential audition full of right-wing overtures and talking points. Nor will we get it from any Democrat seeking to replace him.

But you will get that from me.

This campaign is powered by people who believe that justice isn’t just a slogan. It’s a daily fight. And if we’re going to win it, we need you with us.

Peace and Power,

Butch Ware
