GOP Medicaid cuts are brutal. Democratic cowardice made them possible.

Friends,

Here’s the brutal truth: California is about to get hit hard by federal Medicaid cuts.

If Republican budget proposals go through, California will lose billions of dollars, and millions of people will be thrown into the chaos of an already broken healthcare system.

A graphic from Statista showing a map of Medicaid cuts and which states would be hit hardest. California is one of the states slated to be impacted the most, with more than 25 out of every 100 residents relying on Medicaid for healthcare.

But let’s not pretend this disaster came out of nowhere.

Democrats in Sacramento, under a supermajority, had the power to protect health care for all Californians multiple times in recent memory.

In 2017, they killed SB 562. In 2021, they let AB 1400 wither on the vine.

These were strong, popular bills that would have given every Californian universal healthcare.

No deductibles. No co-pays. No networks. Just comprehensive care.

On top of that, Gavin Newsom ran on single-payer, then helped kill it.

In 2022, he refused to support AB 1400, letting it die without a vote. Instead, he backed a corporate-friendly public option—protecting profits, and private insurance companies.

And now that Republicans are coming with the axe?

Democrats are hiding behind process and politeness, acting shocked at a crisis they helped engineer.

If California had passed CalCare, we wouldn’t be bracing for these cuts. We’d be insulating people from them. Instead, we’ve got a healthcare system built on bureaucracy, greed, and sacrifice zones.

And once again, it’s poor people, disabled people, and working families who pay the price.

This is the cycle of duopoly politics: Republicans attack. Democrats retreat. And people bleed.

But I’m not here to manage decline. I’m here to end it.

The Green Party is the only party in California that takes no corporate money. The only party that puts people over profit. And when I’m Governor, we’re bringing single-payer back and finishing the job.

Because healthcare isn’t a line item. It’s a lifeline.

Let’s rebuild a system that values every life, not just every dollar.

Peace and Power,

Butch Ware
