Death penalty back in LA: Time to break the system

Friends,

Two days ago, LA District Attorney Nathan Hochman reversed years of progress by allowing prosecutors to seek capital punishment again — a return to state-sanctioned barbarism.

People think of Los Angeles as some liberal safe haven where things like this don't happen. But this serves to remind us that neither party in the duopoly has any actual courage or moral conviction.

Governor Newsom made a BIG show of imposing a moratorium on executions in 2019. He took victory laps and claimed moral high ground.

Newsom was even taking pats on the back from the POPE.

Now, they are letting it all crumble.

Hochman has reinstated the death penalty for what he calls "exceedingly rare cases" — the same empty qualifier used for decades while California built one of the largest death rows in America.

We've seen this terrible movie before. Democrats make promises they don't mean, and Republicans dismantle them while vulnerable communities pay the price.

The death penalty is both morally wrong and a logical failure. Study after study has shown that it doesn’t deter crime and it’s more expensive than life imprisonment. Critically, our judicial system is so corrupt — from police misconduct to prosecutorial overreach — that there is zero question innocent people are murdered by the state.

Since 1973, at least 200 people have been released from death row after being proven innocent. How many people weren’t so lucky?

This is exactly why Butch Ware is running for governor of California with the Green Party. We've ALL had enough of Democrats and Republicans trading power back and forth while ignoring the facts and basic humanity.

The two-party duopoly wants you to believe this is “just how democracy works.” It's not.

It's how a captured system works. One where both sides answer to the same donors, the same power structures, and the same failed "tough on crime" playbooks that have failed us all for generations.

Butch Ware will not only reinstate the death penalty moratorium; he’ll abolish it permanently. Because, unlike the political establishment, he understands that true justice isn't about retribution; it's about rehabilitation, restoration, and addressing the root causes of crime.

The establishment is counting on you to give up — prove them wrong.
